Automatic lubrication systems are a convenient way to keep your off-road heavy equipment lubricated and working at top performance. But not all automatic lubrication systems are the same, and it’s important to pick the right one for your equipment. In this post, the LH Travis team will take a deep dive into what you need to know when considering an off-road automatic lubrication system.
How to Choose the Right Off-Road Automatic Lubrication System
Off-road equipment includes everything from tractors to excavators to mining trucks and more. The right automatic lubrication system will vary depending on the size and use of the equipment. Let’s take a look at the requirements of several different types of equipment.
-
- Compact Equipment
Skid steers, compact tractors, and other compact equipment have limited space for an automatic lubrication system. That means the system needs to be compact enough to be mounted on the equipment, while still powerful enough to provide sufficient lubrication. Smaller series progressive grease divider valves are recommended for this type of equipment. - Construction Equipment
Medium-sized equipment typically used in construction, such as bulldozers and dump trucks, need larger systems than compact equipment. Similar to compact equipment, they typically require progressive divider valves, as well as pumps and reservoirs large enough to lubricate the equipment for about 250 hours of operating time. - Quarry, Aggregate, and Cement Equipment
The larger equipment used for quarry, aggregate, and cement work, like track drills and large-wheel loaders, needs a fairly large automatic lubrication system to provide sufficient lubrication. The reservoirs of your system should be able to lubricate your equipment for 250 to 500 hours of operating time. For large systems like this, it’s recommended to have an auto-fill shut-off valve on the pump so the reservoir can be filled at ground level, rather than climbing on equipment. - Mining Equipment
The largest category of equipment is mining equipment, like super excavators and blasthole drills. To meet the demands of these systems, reservoirs should be able to provide lubrication for at least 500 hours of operating time. Auto-shut off valves are absolutely essential on equipment this large.
